SWTOR Wins Game Of The Year At GameSpy.com

Published by under Breaking News on Dec. 31. 2011.

GameSpy.com powered by IGN has released it’s video games of the year awards and SWTOR has been chosen by them as “MMO of the year for 2011”.

While this is no surprise to us the fans that have followed SWTOR since it’s initial announcement over three years ago, there really was no question for us.  SWTOR was always our “game of the year” and has been for the last three years!

Still, it is nice to see Bioware recognized by the big sites in the gaming community and given their due for a truly awesome game and a stellar launch.  So far in my experience SWTOR has had an amazing launch and has done very well and based on the performance of so many other MMO’s in the last few years it looks like SWTOR is here to stay.

Here is part of what GameSpy.com had to say about SWTOR you can see the full article here.

We’re still logging hours in a galaxy far, far away to bring you our full review, but this award should give you an idea how we feel about BioWare’s long-awaited Star Wars MMO. From day one, the renowned RPG studio said it would set its game apart from the competition with story, voice, and choice — and we’ll be a scruffy nerf herder, BioWare has delivered.

Whether playing as a member of the Republic or the Empire, as a Jedi, Sith, or any of the other classes, our staff was sucked into SWTOR by its well-written storylines — storylines we likely would have glossed over if they weren’t delivered with a staggering amount of recorded dialogue. Add in BioWare’s signature dialogue trees and the element of choice, and we’ve become fully immersed in SWTOR unlike any MMO before it.

So what do you think at this time of reflection, when you look back on the last year you spent with SWTOR?  Is it your game of the year?  Was the time you spent following, reading about and playing it worthwhile?

What are your RP Resolutions?

Published by under Role Play on Dec. 30. 2011.

((The RP XP with MJ #19))

Sergeant Wex folded his arms over his armored chest as he squinted against the bright Tythonian sky toward the Jedi temple.

“Sir, how long do we have to wait here?” asked the corporal who joined him from the temporary Republic base a few clicks away.

Wex shrugged. “Jedi are a patient bunch. I’m expecting this to take forever.”

“What are they doing in there?”

“Meditating,” the sergeant shrugged, “Debating? Who knows.”

The corporal sighed under the weight of the rifle on his back and removed his helmet. He pinched the bridge of his nose with a gloved hand. “Oh, I wasn’t prepared for this.”

Wex couldn’t help but chuckle. “For what? Waiting?”

“Yeah,” the young trooper huffed. “This is a load, sarge! We should be back on Ord Mantell or sieging an Imp carrier or somethin’!”

“Think so?”

The kid nodded and grudgingly screwed the helmet back onto his head.

“Well, be careful what you wish for.” Wex shouldered his rifle and moved toward the steps of the temple. “I have the feeling it’s going to be a busy year.”

SWTOR’S First Maintenance Update And The Patch Notes

Published by under Breaking News on Dec. 29. 2011.

The first maintenance update has come and gone since SWTOR has released.  Even though there was a lot of QQ-ing about the length of the update and that it went beyond the planned downtime schedule, I still see it as a success.  There were a lot of things they addressed in this first update that had been giving players fits in game and it shows us that they indeed are listening to the feedback they are receiving via the forums and I am assuming through their in game ticket system.

You can find the posting of the patch notes on the swtor.com site here, now lets look at these and see from a player’s perspective some of the changes they have made and how they affect us.

CAD SWTOR Comic – The Gift Season

Published by under humor on Dec. 28. 2011.

Ctrl-Alt-Del webcomic has been a favorite pass time of mine for many years now. The author, Tim Buckley, is a dedicated gamer and as such he started playing SWTOR lately. This has sprung up several SWTOR themed comics. I’m attaching his latest one here but I highly recommend you go over to his site and browse through his comics because they are a lot of fun and lately very much SWTOR related.

Star Wars: The naughty and nice list.

Published by under Game Mechanics, gameplay, humor on Dec. 27. 2011.

SWTOR Launched officially on December 20th, 2012.  No shit right?  You literally have to either have your head so far up BF3/CoD’s ass that all you see is cross-hairs and snipers in every window, or give less of a shit about video games than a common rat-turd, in which case THIS IS NOT THE ARTICLE YOU ARE LOOKING FOR.  MOVE ALONG.

The launch was far and away one of the smoothest I have ever experienced, including WoW, Aion, Warhammer, Galaxies, Global Agenda, Matrix online, and a plethora of other that stuttered, fell, and bled to death right in front of our eyes on launch day (WoW and Aion excluded).  Now all the juicy tidbits come out.

Here is my naughty and nice list for SWTOR.  Pro’s and cons, salt and pepper, The Doctor and the Daleks.

Happy Holidays from ((The RP XP with MJ))!

Published by under Role Play on Dec. 23. 2011.

((The RP XP with MJ #18))

We here at the staff of ((The RP XP with MJ)), in recognition of the holiday weekend, would like to take a moment to thank you all for your continued comments, questions and support.

The RP community, even in a massive game like SWTOR, is a relatively small group. But we are family. We are the ones who embrace the “Fourth Pillar” and create a fifth: Our Own Epic Stories. So, it is with great honor and humility that I thank you all for keeping the art of RolePlay alive and well, for fostering it in others, and for being the greatest, closest most dedicated community in gaming.

May your holidays be filled with joy and swtor this weekend! Happy Life Day!

And now, some words from the staff….

Login problems and solutions

Published by under Breaking News, news on Dec. 22. 2011.

It seems a large number of players are having issues with logging into the game today. There are several reasons this might be happening but the most common is that you have not set up a subscription on your swtor account properly. For those of you getting the error “no active subscription” or that your “account requires additional activation steps before you can log in” that probably means you did not complete the setup of your account properly. The proper steps to set up your account for play (now that the early access and grace period are over) are:

  1. Complete your contact information
  2. Create/setup three to five security questions on your swtor.com account page
  3. Redeem an official Game Product Registration Code (you got the code when you bought the game – on the box or in the email if digital copy)
  4. Sign up for a subscription! (you will have to enter your credit card number and choose a subscription plan. you will NOT be charged until the first 30 days are up. This is standard procedure for all subscription based MMORPG games)

All of these can be completed at the “My Account” page on swtor.com. Be warned that it seems a lot of people did not read the instructions when they were setting up their account and now a lot of them are trying to log into their account and do the steps above. If you are greeted by a page that asks politely to wait until you log in, just wait for a few minutes and you will be able to log in. I tried it and it really is about a one minute wait.

Your account should look like this once you do all the steps above:

TOR Lore: Speeders

Published by under Lore on Dec. 22. 2011.

Speeders have always been a big part of what makes Star Wars what it is. They may not have always been at the foreground of events, but the flying cars and bikes go a long way toward creating the setting of the Star Wars universe. Because of this, it is a no-brainer that speeders would become the mounts of The Old Republic. Maybe one day we will see players riding tauntauns, varactyls or even rancors, but for now players will find themselves being carried around by the mechanical beasts known as speeders. But what makes these wonders of technology work, and what is the difference between the various types of speeders? Today we shall explore the different classes of speeders and the technology that drives them. Continue Reading »
