Community Contribution Forums Spotlight

This was created by Dreddon

@Saravi_ to @dawnsrose Ever tried to navigate the swtor Fan Art forum? So much hard work/talent, lost under new posts. There’s got to be a better way!

This is a good point. I have posted in that forum, and I read a couple of people’s work. But, my word, there is a ton of very good products in this forum. Is there truly a better way to organize it? Continue Reading »

RP in SWTOR: A Review From Beta

Published by under Beta,Role Play on Nov. 19. 2011.

((The RP XP with MJ – SPECIAL REPORT))

Behold, my very first RP in SWTOR. Thank you, Tyliana, whoever you were.

I’m a dedicated heavy RolePlayer. So, what do you think I wanted to test first upon setting foot in the world of Star Wars: The Old Republic?

Yup. Crafting.

Nah, just kidding. It’s RP! I was curious to check out the chat system, emotes, and the areas that could serve as backdrops for RP scenarios. I also wanted to see if it was possible to engage in RP-related PVP and how well RP adapted into the flash points or the scores of missions. Let’s take a look….

What is in a name? -James Ohlen Reveals The Legacy System in SWTOR

James Ohlen (updated)

Hey Everyone,

This build has our first iteration of the Legacy System! At its core the Legacy system is about allowing players to create a family tree of characters. Family is pretty important to the Star Wars universe, with the Skywalker family having one of the most interesting dynamics in movie history. This version is just the foundational components that we will use to build upon in the future. Here are the features of this iteration:

  • Once your character has completed their Chapter 1 storyline, they will be able to choose a Legacy Last Name. This Legacy Last Name must be unique and is shared across all characters on that server – so choose carefully!
  • Once you have unlocked your Legacy, any and all characters on that server will now contribute to that player’s Legacy Experience Points. Much like normal experience points, when you reach certain Legacy thresholds, you will increase your Legacy Level.

We already have plans for how we will expand the functionality of the Legacy System in one of our major post-ship patches. This will include being able to shape your Legacy’s family tree, and give you a reward for all those Legacy Levels.

We look forward to reading your feedback on the Legacy System!

–James

So announced today is a Legacy System. This system is going to allow you to choose a legacy name for your character, once they complete chapter 1.  Now up to this point we have heard that last names will not be available in game. I get the feeling this particular feature has been on and off the table so many times that saying it is not going to happen is the safest route, cause then if it does it is a bonus. SWTour embargo/NDA lifted

Published by under Beta,beta testing,Breaking News,news on Nov. 18. 2011.

Return Flight from Fan Summit #2

Quietly the embargo for the Fan Summit #2 dropped today. When I say quiet, I mean that we didn’t get an announcement about incoming media blitz. What we have gotten is a volume of posts that are making me try to prioritize for myself. Not only do we have the North American sites, we also have the European sites. Continue Reading »

Firing Your Own Canon

Published by under Role Play,Uncategorized on Nov. 18. 2011.

((The RP XP with MJ #13))

Padawan Tarik sat next to the smuggler Yulel in the passenger compartment of the Regail. His eyes fell upon the Twi’lek spice runner with adoration beyond the simple recognition of her abilities and strength of survival. He dabbed at a scrape on the side of her face with a medicated pad but his eyes remained glazed on the unbroken beauty of her profile.

She glanced at him and he pulled away quickly, blushing and looking down at the Kolto salve tube in his other hand. She said, “You don’t think I should have brought this, do you? You think I should have left it.”

Yulel held up a clear crystal shaped like a chiseled tube no bigger than her little finger.

TOR Lore: Mandalorians

Published by under Lore on Nov. 17. 2011.

There is no culture in the Star Wars universe that defines the phrase “Survival of the fittest” more than the Mandalorians. This warrior culture has proven time and time again that it is war that drives them in the universe. Yet they do not engage in battle because of blood lust, or any great desire to conquer. They fight because they feel that their culture–in fact all cultures–define themselves in combat. They see war as the catalyst for an evolving culture, the constant thing that forces people to develop and grow. Though they may seem evil to many in the galaxy, those that study their people and their history will see that they actually live by a warrior code of honor that compels them to challenge worthy opponents wherever they find them. They have proven time and time again that they are more than a match for anyone in the galaxy, even Jedi and Sith, making the Mandalorian warriors one of the most fearsome sights in the galaxy. Big Beta Weekend Dated and Other Beta News

Published by under Beta, news on Nov. 17. 2011.

Hundreds of thousands of beta keys for Star Wars: The Old Republic have been handed out through various web sites over the past couple of days. It was near impossible to get into the beta just a couple of weeks ago and now everybody seems to be given a chance to preview the game before official release. We now know when this Big Beta Weekend will commence. It was announced over twitter official SWTOR account that they are targeting to start on Friday November 25 and close on Monday November 28. You should expect your invitation emails on/or around Tuesday (these will contain a link to client download).

While we are on the subject of beta, it has been reported that during the previous beta weekend testers spent more than a million hours on the game. I hope they found all the bugs and will make the game launch that much smoother. Great news for all those that tested during that beta weekend is that their characters will be carried over to the upcoming beta testing weekend and they will be able to continue leveling their characters.

While you wait for next week, bask in the glory of this week’s Facebook image featuring Eternity Vault.
