Im going to name my Fury class ship “Linda”.

Very nice overview btw. I think it would be cool to have a sort of system where you can dock with other players of the same faction (party members, raid member etc.) to make kind of a makeshift cantina or HUB. Possibly even an enemy boarding systems where you can over run an enemy ship with your companions, force the player to eject in an escape pod and do a quest to obtain the ship back through Blackmarket dealing or Investigation.

    Random thoughts.

Ok ….. When can I get my freighter? I mean once you commit to crafting I want less lasers more crew crafting benefits 😉

I have heard the suggestion of “Guild Ships” before and always thought that was a cool idea. I can’t wait to get my BA Defender and fly around!

I hope that a future plan is to add “guild ships” as mentioned by others above (and other places).

I suppose the easiest method would be making the guild ship an always in orbit/space place that is added to your destinations list, and special missions based around your guild ship could be made.

This whole side element to the game will be interesting.

Agreed, this is a nice overview. Thanks for the post, swotorcrafter!

Wondering out loud: What is the PC capacity for a ship; anyone know? Presuming, of course, that players will be allowed aboard (by invite) other players’ ships.

If that’s the case, the ships would provide an excellent stage for RP as well as a meeting place for guilds and strategy meetings for raids and flashpoints. Something similar to the system in “Star Trek Online,” which allows for up to 30+ people aboard a ship (in addition to NPC crew), would be a welcome option when considering private chat, gear comparison, trading and such.

    Thoughts?

I don’t think I have ever heard them say the cap on players that can come aboard your ship. I do know they have said it will be possible for people to join you on your ship though at launch. That will definitely be great for RP reasons.

I wants guilds ships for sure! God I hope they get that in there soon. Honestly I have never understood why that mechanic was put off until after launch. That is something that everyone wants across the board and unless they have some strategy for holding it back to make a awesome expansion or something???

Doesn’t seem like a very smart move to me but I don’t see the whole picture behind the scenes either so I will let them slide this time. 🙂

I had not heard them say that it was going to be in at launch, just something they were shooting for. I hope that it is in at launch though. As far as players on your ship I have to think that you can only invite people you are grouped with, at least that’s my prediction anyway. If they ever did guild ships I would guess that they would be big cruisers, they would have to be in order to accommodate all the players of the guild.

The only reason I can see that they would not have these in at launch is that it’s not that important to the game, at least not in my opinion. If they kept pushing the release date back for things like this then the game would never come out!

Yeah, I thought having other players join you on your ship was part of their wall of crazy or whatever for after launch.

I do hope they add that soon though along with guild ships! That will be awesome!

It is confirmed that people will be able to join you on your ship at launch guys. As far as to how many or if you have to be grouped or whatever I am not sure though but multiple devs have said the ability to party on your ship with friends is a go for launch.

*prays for guild ships at night before bed*

    lol 🙂

Great news! Thanks for the confirm, ‘crafter!

Ironically, STO has a bug where you can invite whomever you want on your ship as long as they’re in the same faction and accept the invite. The bug comes into play if you’re grouped. If you’re grouped, your invited friend ends up drifting through space sans-ship. 😉 That may have been fixed, but I haven’t checked. …My point being that grouped or not-grouped shouldn’t be a big deal. I’m just glad it’s there at launch.

Now for those guild ships… 😛

Guild ships Inc. Probably want to see how/where people congregate before instituting something that will detract from such areas. I love the idea of guild ships being capital ships would be the perfect stage for g vs g pvp.

Excellent guide! This really has me excited about this game 😀

Only let guild leaders steer the ship, someone will crash it into a sun….destroying your entire bank and perma-killing toons, not fun for anyone.
