Fan Site Summit community questions

Published by under SWTOUR on Apr. 20. 2011.

As part of the upcoming Fansite event Bioware is hosting at their offices in Austin, Texas, we will be interviewing developers during the day. Having a crafting expert among our ranks dictates that we get as much information about Crew Skills as they’ll let us have. This, in turn, pointed us in a direction of a person that can also answer about Flashpoints as a game mechanic so our questions will gravitate towards those two topics. We have such luck that one of our writers, Mr. Warlock is also attending the show, on behalf of his own fansite, and he will focus mainly on PvP. Being in the offices with the devs will also result in being able to throw random questions their way, so I suppose questions of a general type will get answers as well.

This is where you, the SWTOR community get a chance to ask questions within those categories. If there was anything you ever wanted to find out specifically about the Crew skills, Flashpoint mechanics, PvP or game in general here is your chance. Let Swtor Life be your tool in obtaining those answers. We’ll pick the best questions out of the ones you ask here and in our thread dedicated to the event on the official forums and pass them to the developers. I will be updating this post with good question candidates and we’ll pick the questions to ask on spot, depending on what gets answered in the meantime.

There are two guide-lines to follow:

  • Do not ask questions that will not be answered
  • Do not ask questions that have already been answered

I would also like to point you to this post of ours. My agenda for the event is to have my gameplay experience guided by the community. To experience things the community would like me to experience so I can describe it later to you all. Feel free to make “experience requests” on the official forums or here on site in the comments section as well.

In the context of PVP, how might opposing players perceive your character if you had engaged stealth as an Inquisitor, Smuggler, Consular, or other stealth-using class? Is the mechanic much akin to the Rogue ability seen in World of Warcraft?

Germ that I will ask 🙂

Excellent. I was starting to get worried when I compared the number of responses here to those listed in the community thread on the official site.

    I am not forgotten! 🙂

Guess I put my comment about questions on the wrong page. Here it is again:

Awesome that all those sites including your own get to go. And the tour of Bioware Austin (perhaps you can see if they have developers shackled in the basement and these LARP parties and chocolate fountains they keep talking about).

Some SWTOR questions I would ask the Bioware team would be:

Are there any additional Crew Skills they are ready to reveal? Will Bioware ever update Armtech on their Crew Skills page since it’s reveal in December last year? Are each of the unknowns on that page equal to an as yet unrevealed Crew Skill?
Is there anything else Bioware can reveal about the Voidstar Warzone or other Warzones?
Can Bioware give us an idea of raid sizes in terms of number of players needed for SWTOR yet? Will it be 8 people or 20 people per raid group or something entirely different?
Will there be a companion video to showcase some companions and what they can do and some of the customizations they have to set them apart from someone else’s companions?
With the guild integration that the Guild HQ seems to hint at, is there going to be some kind of guild raid loot system like DKP in place or some kind of ‘in-house’ system that is similar where you can reward players for effort and attendance?
Can Bioware give us more information on the 6 healers and how they differ in the ways that they heal for each advanced class as the game stands right now?
Can Bioware give us more information on the 6 tanks and how they differ in the ways that they tank for each advanced class as the game stands right now?
For the advanced classes without support skill trees such as Gunslinger, Sniper, Sentinel, and Marauder, what are their styles of DPS (since they have 2 DPS skill trees) and how do those skill trees differ?
Since 1 skill tree is shared with each advanced class of a particular class, how different is say an Operative specc’ed in that shared tree versus a Sniper specc’ed in the same shared tree?
Will there be a video to show off Trooper and Bounty Hunter healing so we can get a better idea of what to expect from their healing as a healing build of those classes?
Will there be an addon system like World of Warcraft’s system using LUA?
Is the UI customizable? Will you be able to create or download custom UI’s similar to other MMO’s?
Will there be macros in SWTOR?
Will you be able to capture cities or planets in PVP?
Are there any other player character races they can reveal officially now or are there still some up in the air at this point?
Will Bioware ever get Weird Al and Dallas Dickinson to sing the Saga Begins together along with the whole SWTOR design team for an epic reprise of their PAX Prime performance?

(I removed questions on CC immunity and lightsaber color)

    Have fun at the event!

“Though I understand you aren’t giving details on “World PvP” perhaps you can give us a broad idea of whether it will be a huge dedicated zone for PvP which is open 24 hours and of which the final objective can take days or weeks to complete (large number warfare), or whether it are small zones, timed events, some objectives in leveling zones, etc? ”

    If not then:

    – Will obtaining gear be the major reward for playing PvP?

    – Will gear make a huge difference in PvP?

    – At end-game will class specific gear sets be the main gear players will go for due to set bonuses or are there better or equally good results when you mix and match your own items?

    – In a fight between equal level and equally geared players depending on the classes what is the fastest you can kill another player?

    – Will there be a guild advancement system like that of WAR/WoW

    – Will there be bases/keeps/outposts to fight over in outdoors (non-instanced) PvP?

    – Will there be the option to create a team and compete in a ladder like system for Warfronts? (Like WoW’s rated battlegrounds)

Yes, PvP is the only thing I can think about 24/7 :p
