Forum Friday: SWTOR + Razer Switchblade?

Published by under gameplay, speculation on Apr. 15. 2011.

My original post for this weeks edition was all written up and all I had to do was type it out. So what happens? My brain starts thinking about things that would be nice to have in edition to playing Swtor and I had a post ready to go on the forums. I head over there and BAM, it’s already got a post, dated today about the same topic I was thinking about. So while it is fresh on the mind, I decided to switch gears and pop out this little post, even though the thread was just started. The thread, and my thoughts, center around Swtor and the Razer Switchblade.

Where's the Jump button?

So are you interested yet? Read on then friends!

So if you don’t know, the Switchblade is a product that Razer is working on. It was announced during the last CES and created a lot of buzz. now I know people are all about “Why would I game on that when I have my Laptop?” or “The screen is too tiny” to really appreciate where this beauty comes into play. This isn’t your hardcore raiding gear. This has the potential to be the social gaming gear for friends that like to play games together. It could be the item that gets your out of your parents basement and lets you get a little sun on those pasty white legs. Hell, take it to a location somewhere girls are and they might want to come see just what it is you are playing and what it is you are playing on.

Personally, I think having something like the Switchblade and having it capable to play Swtor would be great. how many of you get lunch breaks at work? Wouldn’t you think it nice to be able to log on and check out the crafting your companions are suppose to be doing for you? How about logging on and just chatting with some guildies? What about being able to log on and hit the Auction House to see what deals there are or check to see if any of your items sold? Wouldn’t having something like this, just made for a game, be kind of nice to use for those things?

I see this device as more of a social option for gaming. Other games, like Rift, have added Twitter in-game feeds and even YouTube recording options. Throw in a piece of gear like this and you add another layer of social gaming. It is the way games are going these days and this, I think, is just another way of helping that happen. I would love to be able to have this, head to my friends house or to a guild meet and greet. Have some good conversation, everyone jump in and do some fun stuff casually and just do things in and out of the game easily, with no huge gaming bags of gear or equipment to lug around.

Now, I am not sure when or if this thing will ever come to a working system for us to buy. We don’t even know if the thing will even be compatible with Swtor. So before you go nuts over the gear, think more about what it possibly could do for letting you game on the go, still hang out with friends and not be buried down with tons of stuff just to do those simple things. So head below and post your thoughts and do the same in the thread. Don’t just think about the gear but the social aspects of it. If this isn’t your cup of tea, then what would you like to see to add more “Social” into the “MMO”?

I don’t think I would want to use something like that … I imagine I would spend too much time looking down at the cool graphics on the keys! I generally use an external mouse and keyboard anyway.

Interesting idea, though, for something to use whilst traveling etc.

    Thanks for the article mate

Yeah, my wife would NEVER let me buy one just because then I would be always doing something in game where ever we are.

I also don’t think this system will ever replace gaming laptops for fully being to jump in and raid, but it is a very interesting concept.

The idea is okay, but I really hate laptops for gaming, there’s so much that can go wrong and so little you can do to fix it or upgrade it. But I have little desire to play games in coffee shops, out in the park or at work/school. I personally like to play where I’m comfortable, dark and no one to bother me.

No thanks Razer, I like your products but this one wont work for me. 😛

Laptops are as good for gaming as gonorrhea is for abstinence. It’s gonna cost a bajillion dollars and work about as well as a 6 year old desktop. I personally have @ $1400 gaming laptop (feel free to pimpslap me in your mind for that moronic purchase) that performs about as well and a meth-addicted emu. Razer? Stick to keyboards and mice. We don’t need another crappy laptop with glowy buttons.
